Bio

As an undergraduate at the University of Delaware (UD), Scott joined and eventually became the president of the UD student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).  Through ASME, Scott participated in many exciting activities, including the first Solar Decathlon in October 2002.  He earned his Honors Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Distinction in May 2005.  Scott began his Ph.D. studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology that fall, and passed his qualification exams a year later, in the fall of 2006.

Research

My research plan is to use a nanoindenter to characterize the mechanical properties of polymeric neuronal probes which are fabricated by two-photon stereolithography.  The two challenges: (1) These probes are meant to replace current silicon-based or microwire probes, and have never been synthesized with this method (2) No material polymerized by two-photon stereolithography has ever been quantitatively characterized.
