Bio
David Miller received a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the
Research
Specific projects include: (a) the study of the response of multilayered (Si/Cr/Au) MEMS structures to applied thermal conditions, exploring both mechanical- and microstructural-induced behaviour (b) the effect of galvanic corrosion on silicon MEMS devices, including electrical, mechanical, and microstructural characteristics, and (c) the mechanical characterization of nano-scale specimens, enabled using MEMS technology. These research projects have been performed in collaboration with the

Microstructural evolution of annealed Au/Cr/Si composite microcantilevers, annealed at 225 C for (a) 30 minutes, (b) 24 hours, and (c) 16 days. Grain growth, diffusion, and oxidation were found to correspond to substantial change in mechanical shape (curvature).

Surface morphology of polysilicon exposed to various HF-based solutions for 90 minutes. Images compare specimens either connected or not connected to metal.
